We wanted to share an important update that will directly impact hemp-derived THC beverages in Minnesota and across the country.
Unless Congress acts now, hemp-derived THC beverages — along with many hemp-derived products including gummies and CBD products — will become federally illegal on November 12, 2026.
This federal ban overrides Minnesota law.
Despite Minnesota building one of the most thoughtful and regulated hemp markets in the country, these products will disappear from shelves, taprooms, liquor stores, and retailers statewide if Congress does not intervene.
At Bent Paddle, we believe these products should be:
→ Responsibly regulated
→ Clearly labeled and tested
→ Kept out of the unregulated market
→ Managed at the state level by the communities closest to them
This reaches far beyond beverages. Minnesota farmers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, hospitality businesses, and consumers will all be impacted by this federal action.
If the ban takes effect:
→ Legal hemp beverages will disappear from Minnesota shelves
→ Small businesses across the supply chain will lose much-needed revenue and, in many cases, be forced to contract operations or close entirely — including many small local breweries
→ Jobs connected to brewing, hemp production, manufacturing, distribution, retail, and hospitality will be affected
→ Consumer demand will shift into unregulated markets instead of safe, tested products
We believe that is a step backward for Minnesota products, Minnesota businesses, and Minnesota people.
If you support Minnesota’s ability to responsibly regulate hemp-derived products, now is the time to speak up.
