Makwawigwamikwe Marlena Boedigheimer was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota and is a member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. She began playing the tenor saxophone at age 14, inspired after hearing the instrument sampled on Pete Rock & CL Smooth’s “T.R.O.Y”.

Marlena is primarily focused on making music that embodies concepts of Indigenous Futurism through what many would recognize as “free jazz”. Her projects center around the use of the Ojibwe language, Anishinaabemowin, as well as stories from her relatives and ancestors, aiming to raise awareness of the history of her people and the contemporary Ojibwe world. She has performed and recorded with Mato Wayuhi, The Tewa, and other contemporary Indigenous artists across a variety of genres.

Based out of Duluth, Minnesota, Death Valley Yacht Club is the creative collaboration of musicians Charlie Jacobs and Alex Oberton. The two-piece band’s signature sound features their intricate vocal harmonies sung over the interplay between their tightly-arranged acoustic guitars. MN Songbird described the band's sound as “timeless”, saying they could imagine hearing the music “in the 90’s opening for someone like Elliott Smith.” Their original music takes inspiration from artists like The Beatles, Neil Young, The Avett Brothers, and Jesse Welles. DVYC’s music brings to mind the high and lonesome essence of bluegrass and modern folk music, having been compared to classic and beloved acts such as Simon and Garfunkel, The Milk Carton Kids, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Their debut album, Dead Flowers, was published to various streaming services in April 2025.

The Trinkets are an indie pop rock band from Duluth founded by Elsie Zimmerman (vocals/guitar) and April Dressel (drums). They're inspired by the music of their parents' generation like Green Day, Weezer, Nirvana, and Radiohead, but they are also students of modern artists such as Chapelle Roan, Billie Eilish, and Clairo. Although they are a new band, they've played a fair share of shows around town, including Spirit of the Times and Gag Me With a Spoon. They've been working on a debut EP, and have recently released an original single, Anabelle.

BIG INTO is a Twin Cities based trio featuring guitarist/vocalist Jozef Conaway, drummer/vocalist Curtis Kraft Mattson, and Duluth bassist David Mold. The band blends space rock textures, sharp punk leaning rhythms, and exploratory lyricism into a groove forward sound that is both expansive and controlled, drawing comparisons to Talking Heads for its rhythmic complexity and dance friendly sensibility.

Conaway’s 12 string guitar work and melodic instincts shape the band’s sonic identity, while Mattson’s big, propulsive drumming and shared vocals drive each song with urgency and movement. Mold, also a member of Duluth’s The Leave Alones, anchors the trio with a commanding low end and slick licks. With a full-length album from 2020 and two EPs released in 2024, BIG INTO delivers live performances that feel intentional, energetic, and built for the northland.

Lace up and join Tortoise & Hare Footwear every Tuesday for a weekly community run on the Cross City Trail—starting and ending right here at Bent Paddle Brewing Co.! Whether you’re a first-time jogger or a seasoned runner, all paces are welcome in this fun, supportive, and judgment-free space.

🗓 Every Tuesday, all year round (rain, snow, or shine—within reason)
⏰ Runs begin at 6 PM
📍 Meet at Bent Paddle’s green space (inside during winter or rainy weather)
📏 Distance: Choose your own pace & distance—anywhere from 2–5 miles
