Side String Band formed out of a desire to make pure music true to the soul. Consisting of sidemen from various acoustic bands in the Midwest, Side String Band yearns to bring back the sound of old time bluegrass with progressive folk undertones. The band has collectively been influenced by this authentic American music over many collective years of performance. Each member contributes their craft and as a result, the sound is diverse and unified in its goal.

Side String Band is Harrison Olk (Tin Can Gin, Kind Country, Cascade Crescendo) on banjo and vocals; Nate Hynum (Black River Revue) on mandolin and vocals; Clancy Ward (Sugar on the Roof, Dickel Brothers) on fiddle and vocals; and Adam Staupe (Feeding Leroy) on the double bass and guitar. Often, as is tradition in the bluegrass and old-time music scene, Side String Band invites fellow musicians to join them on stage as they enjoy performing amongst a large community of musicians from all over the country. Side String Band is dedicated to making working people’s music; whether raw and fast or slow and sweet, the music tells the story and the members of Side String Band are the messengers. From toe tapping fiddle tunes to instant classic originals their roots are evident throughout each unique performance.

Tin Can Gin was born and brewed upon the shores of Lake Superior near Duluth by childhood pals Harrison Olk and Trevor Marrin. Along with mandolinist Bryan Nelson, the trio created the trademark TCG tunes that are fan favorites to this very day. In the autumn of 2011 the group was summoned to the stage at their first gig as "Tin Can Gin". As time passed the band added fiddle virtuoso Nori Schwenzfeier and Neil Krause on stand-up bass to round out the Tin Can Gin sound.

That unique sound draws from each members musical upbringing. Harrison's traditional bluegrass banjo, Trevor's creative song writing and guitar work, Bryan's fast folk pickin' mandolin, Neil's solid bass backing all wrapped and complimented with a sprinkle of Nori's Celtic fiddle subtleties. The combination of music and vocal gymnastics creates an experience in sound that is sure to tickle your musical palate while you tap your toes in unbridled pleasure. This stew of music, vocals and melody explodes in a style as bitter and sweet as the best IPAs out there today.

Being the city that's forged some of the biggest names in music, Duluth is also home to Jumpsuit - a funk/jam outfit with a big side bowl of soul. On the rise, these funky folks are a culmination of individuals who have shared the stage with many of those names and more. Jumpsuit features Emanuel Eisele and Marshall Dillon on guitars, Calzone on bass, Ian Hopp on drums, and Erica “Ricky” Francois on lead vocals.

Wurk is a 6-piece funk-fusion group which formed in Madison, WI in 2016. Inspired by Umphrey’s McGee, Lettuce, Phish and many others, their innovative original songs and ambitious interpretations of popular covers offer an impressive blend of jazz fusion, prog rock, jam rock and more, all with the consistent underlying grooves of funk. Wurk has opened for acts including The Motet and Andy Frasco & the U.N., and helped pack venues across Wisconsin and the Midwest. Described by Isthmus Magazine as “summer-jam-perfect” and two-time recipient of the Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) Artist of the Year Award (2019, 2022), Wurk fills the gap between complexity and groove, impressing fans and keeping them dancing all night.

Frank Laufenberg uses his electric guitar to provide funky rhythms and dense chord structure while filling the role of principal songwriter and vocalist. He leads the charge alongside Daniel Haschke (saxophones/flute) who hypes the crowds by leaping off of the stage and spreading his infectious joy to the dance floor. Max Morkri’s blend of solid grooving and intricate drum chops glue the band together. Carl Hipenbecker (trumpet/synth/vocals) and Brandon Jensen (keys/synth) offer a diverse range of skills to make each tune fresh and unique.

Wurk has been busy on the road to promote their newest single “Song for Squares”. The tune ventures into uncharted territory for the band, exploring a mixture of pop and punk with ska undertones. Throughout the single, the band flexes its adaptability while staying true to its foundations in groove and riffs. “Song for Squares”’ raw emotive tone and lyrics pry at the foundation of current American society's lust for divisiveness, drama and crave for acceptance.
