Venture Pils is the Brewer’s Beer here at Bent Paddle. It is the quintessential representation of beer brewed with the pristine waters of Lake Superior. Venture Pils uses no water chemistry adjustments – just pure Lake Superior Water which highlights what can be done with this incredible resource. Weyermann Pilsener Malt from Germany is the base malt used in this beer. A cracker-esque malt characteristic that resonates through is balanced out by the snappiness of European Noble hops and a clean lager yeast profile from the Ausustiner Lager strain. A touch of a floral hop flavor and aroma makes this brilliantly clear lager refreshing all year round.

Utilizing a blend of American and European malts, Bent Hop has a malt profile rich with notes of biscuit, cereal, and caramel. We balance this bold malt backbone out with a blend of Hops unique only to this brand. Intense notes of grapefruit, citrus, and pine resonate throughout this beer. The predominant hops used are Centennial and Eldorado sourced from the American Pacific Northwest with a total of 2 lbs. per barrel.

Cold Press Black Ale gives the drinker all of the pleasantries of our Black Ale mixed with our house made Cold Press utilizing beans from Duluth Coffee Company. We’ve moved to a single source farm in Colombia where the beans are grown and then sent up to Duluth Coffee Company to be roasted. Once roasted, we make our cold press in house and infuse into our Black Ale post centrifuge at a rate of 1 gallon per barrel. Expect the rich chocolate and roast characteristics to blend nicely with the Cold Press infusion, bringing the coffee notes to the forefront of your pallet with a pleasantly smooth finish.

Extra Baked is one of two barrel aged beers Bent Paddle is releasing in 2022. We used freshly dumped Heaven Hill Bourbon and Wheat Whiskey barrels to age the beer for roughly 9 months. Once we determined the total volume needed for this year’s release, we brewed another batch and aged it for roughly 6 weeks in second use 2020 Double Shot Double Black barrels (which were the same Heaven Hill barrels previously mentioned). The beer was racked out of the barrels and infused with 1200 pounds of toasted, unsweetened coconut flakes in a fermentor where we allowed the beer to rest on the coconut for 6 days. We then transferred the beer off the coconut, infused it with a chocolate flavoring called Cholaca, centrifuged the beer, and added a touch of vanilla to round out the flavors. Expect big barrel notes accompanied by coconut, chocolate, and vanilla. The barrel character in this year’s release lends notes of sherry and vanilla. The addition of coconut and chocolate balances out this barrel character and gives the drinker a smooth and balanced beer. The finish is clean and highlights each of these flavors throughout each sip. We hope you enjoy this tasty treat. Cheers!

Snowmaker Pale Ale is a recipe that was born in our Pilot Brewery from Pilot Brewer Neil Caron and has been scaled up and brewed in our Production Facility. This beer utilizes equal parts of 2-Row and Golden Promise for the base malt with Caramalt, Heritage Crystal, Carafoam, Crystal Extra Dark, and Dehusked Carafa 3 added as the specialty malts. Together, these malts give this beer its beautiful copper color. They also lend to the toast, honey, dark fruit and caramel malt flavors that are present in this beer. The hops used are primarily Simcoe and Centennial hops with a touch of Crystal hops used on the hot side. The large additions of Simcoe and Centennial lend to the overall pine, grapefruit, and cotton candy hop flavors present in this beer. We dry hopped this beer with 2.2 lbs per barrel of hops making the hop load in this beer just over 3 lbs per barrel, overall. Expect a deliciously balanced IPA with beautiful hop and malt notes. Pleasantly dry and crystal clear allow this hoppy and malty treat to be enjoyed throughout the cooler months ahead. Cheers!

Classic Cream Ale is Bent Paddle’s take on a straight-forward, easy drinking beer. This well-balanced beer has a light expression of hops and malt while allowing for the yeast character to shine though. We use a Dry English Ale Yeast which brings a slightly fruity ester character to the beer. We use 2-Row malt for the base and add oats to up to 15% to bring a smooth mouthfeel to this light, crisp, and refreshing American Style Ale.
