BOATS & BLUEGRASS STAGE
We’ve partnered with our bluegrass lovin’ friends from Winona, MN to promote Boats & Bluegrass at Festiversary 2017! Boats & Bluegrass is a family friendly music festival with camping held in Winona on the Mississippi River September 20-24, 2017.

Take It With You Cast

Set in a watering hole on the shores of Lake Superior this live radio play and podcast follows Blake Thomas and a colorful group of his multi-talented pals, patrons & employees as they stumble through each new 60-minute adventure, filled with original music, laughs, sound effects, conversation & beer swilling! Advice from local leaders, authors, experts, and business owners, plus performances from regional guest artists, round out every show captured in front of a live audience at The Underground Theatre in Duluth, Minnesota (and now coming to a city near you)!
Jillian Rae Band
Main Stage 2 – 2:45 pm
Jillian Rae is a multi-talented violinist, lead vocalist, and songwriter whose creative and dynamic style of violin playing, along with her lifelong experience as a performer, lend her an assured stage presence. She has an innate ability to create hook-laden tunes affirming the positives of life in the face of struggle and disappointment.
Hop Outside…Inside the Brewery 2:30 – 3:15 pm
Molly Maher is the sort of musician you see once and never forget. She's got over a decade of experience playing around Mpls/St. Paul with some of the best musicians in town. She writes songs that ring true. Her singing rings deep and soulful, somewhere between Lucinda Williams and Bonnie Raitt. Guitar driven, spirited , country-folk-jam with a blues swagger. Finding balance in all good things she also spends time teaching yoga.
Boats & Bluegrass Stage 2:45 – 3:30 pm
Wood Blind features the combo of Duluth mainstay and guitarist Jason Wussow and Los Angeles studio/ touring bass player Veikko Lepisto. Wussow’s credits include the bands Flux Skapacitor, No Room to Pogo, Yeltzi, Fuzzy Ellis and ownership of all-ages music venue Beaner’s Central. Lepisto has worked with Mike Ness of Social Distortion, Royal Crown Revue and Bette Midler while on the West Coast. Teamed together they make acoustic ska à la 1960s’ Jamaica and 70s’ England. Their sets include traditional reggae, ska versions of classic rock and R&B hits, and original rocksteady numbers.
Black River Revue
Main Stage 3:30 – 4:15 pm
Freshwater bluegrass from the twin ports of Duluth, MN and Superior, WI. Using a bluegrass instrumentation BRR has crafted their own sound made up of mostly original music which can be heard on their debut album "Garbage Pickin" (released in April of 2013). Their sophomore album "Spring Thaw" (released June 2014) added another year of songwriting and live performance experience to their sound. Five years of touring, personnel change, and personal growth has inspired a third record due out fall 2017.
Noble Sound System
Boats & Bluegrass Stage 4:15 – 5 pm
Noble Sound System boast a hard working, well rehearsed, original reggae act that relies heavily on their natural chemistry and smooth flowing vocal harmonies.
Hop Outside…Inside the Brewery 4:30 – 5:15 pm
Ben Weaver is a songwriter and poet who travels by bicycle using relationships of all kinds to help awaken greater reciprocity between people, the land and the water. Recent human-powered expeditions have taken him down the Mississippi River, around Lake Superior, across the Kenai Watershed in Alaska and throughout the Netherlands. Given the choice he will side with the animals, lakes, rivers and the trees.

The Big Wu
Main Stage 5:15 – 6:30 pm
The story goes that the Big Wu, bound for rock stardom, sold their souls for a case of Old Style beer one thirsty night long ago. The legend and the band live on. Still rocking their powerful, moving, and energizing original music for the fans. A jam band with a unique style and presence, the Wu combine strong, free flowing improv and vocal harmonies, with finely crafted songs for all tastes. Oh, and their fans are famously friendly.
Boats & Bluegrass Stage 6:30 – 7:15 pm
The Boomchucks fallback plan is always the same, train beats, harmonies, and Americana music. But they do wander from that formula quite often. Jamie Ness and Brad Nelson formed The Boomchucks in 2008 after discovering they both had a penchant for hard-driving country and folk. The duo has two records out to date, their self-titled debut and sophomore effort, Antidote.
Hop Outside…Inside the Brewery 6:30 – 7:15 pm
Making his home in the Mississippi River town of Winona, Minnesota, Mike Munson is well known for playing slide guitar blues. The driving rhythms in his songs are reminiscent of the trains that barrel through his neighborhood. Munson makes regular appearances throughout the Midwest, and is currently working on his third release following a debut studio recording and the acclaimed “Live at Ed’s” release in 2014.
Big Wave Dave & the Ripples
Main Stage 7:15 - 8 pm
A conglomeration of musicians creating and celebrating the music that gets you movin'! The goal and message of the band: Play the music they love and get people on the dance floor! BWD performs live throughout the Twin Ports area and branching into the Cites.The originals and homages to the current and past greats provide the vibrations to get people smiling and moving their feet as the eight-piece horn band plays soul/funk/rock/blues for the masses.
